The Stars of the Texan Philanthropy

Some of the nonprofits profiled on Lone Star Philanthropy include the organizations devoted to marshalling the resources of Texan nonprofits into a coordinated effort, such as the OneStar Foundation. The current chairman, who is appointed by the Governor of Texas, is Warren G. Diggles, who has headed another excellent nonprofit organization, the Boys and Girls Club of Deep East Texas. Lone Star Philanthropy profiles another stellar Boys and Girls Club, the Boys and Girls Club of the Capital Area, currently chaired by former Lt. Gov. of Texas Ben Barnes.

Nonprofits that are there during the time of a person’s greatest need are also profiled, including Children’s Safe Harbor (chaired by Victoria Constance) and the Texas Non-Profit Hospice Alliance. Linda Perryman Evans is the president of The Meadows Foundation, another Texas nonprofit assisting those in economic distress. In the field of education, the Lyndon Baines Johnson Foundation (whose board members include such Texas luminaries as Dr. Betty Sue Flowers, Dr. Larry R. Faulkner, Ambassador Lyndon L. Olsen, and Ben Barnes) , is striving to prepare students for leadership positions while fostering community involvement. And no profile of Texas non-profits is complete without a mention of Patsy Woods Martin, the director of the stellar Austin nonprofit website, I Live Here I Give Here.

We all need a helping hand sometime, even in the great state of Texas. We hope the inspiring stories of these Texas nonprofit organizations will inspire you to give your time (and maybe a little money!) to these worthy causes. We also tip our hat to the generous individuals who have recognized that there is more to life than just making money and securing promotions. By helping our fellow neighbors and our communities, we make the world a better place, one Texan at a time.
